On June 30 (Sunday), the world lost a badminton protégé in the form of China’s Zhang Zhi Jie, who had collapsed during his boy’s singles match against Japan’s Kazuma Kawano at the Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and passed away. He was only 17 years old.
And while it’s been more than 2 weeks since the incident, it appears that his body is still at the Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Yogyakarta, despite his family coming down from China.
According to a report by Tribun News, the Head of Legal and Public Relations of the Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, Banu Hermawan shared that his party has yet to receive news from Zhang Zhi Jie’s family in regards to the repatriation of his body to China.
“There is no information yet on when (the body) will be collected (and returned to China),” he said.
Despite this, he has ensured that Zhang Zhi Jie’s body is being kept safe and in good condition.
In the meantime, the Head of Public Relations and Media of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), Broto Happy Wondomisnowo, shared that Zhang Zhi Jie’s family’s arrival to Indonesia has only left them with uncertainty over what is to happen with the late badminton player’s body.
“Zhang Zhi Jie’s family has actually come to Yogyakarta, but until now, Zhang’s body is still at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital. Other than that, there are no new updates,” he said.
