The image of public toilets in Malaysia is beginning to change for the better as of late thanks to new policies by the Federal Government.
These include the ‘Toilet of the Year’ initiative by the Ministry of Local Government and Development, as well as the allocation of RM150 million to repair and maintain public restrooms under Budget 2024.
Toilets and public schools are also given emphasis by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whereby there is an ongoing project to repair and upgrade toilets in 8,354 schools nationwide that’ll be completed by the year-end.
Speaking of which, one such school toilet upgrade went viral recently thanks to its beautiful design and ambience that would make you second guess whether you’re actually at a public school or at an ‘atas’ place.
Shared by @fendy.daud4 on TikTok, the toilet is located at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Adika Raja in Hulu Perak, Perak. As of the time of writing, the video has garnered over 983,000 views and more than 38,600 likes.
In the video, @fendy.daud4 shared a tour of the new facilities in both the boys’ and girls’ toilets at the school.
Most notably from the video, the toilets have full-height wall tiles throughout, with the floor and certain sections of the walls having gorgeous patterns on them.
Besides that, there are also chairs and a tabletop at the entrance so that students can sit down while using the mirror.
One of the cubicles has a shower in it, while the others have either a sitting or squatting water closet.
Based on the caption of the video, the toilets cost RM70,000 and were built by Ahmad Daud Enterprise which is affiliated with @fendy.daud4.

In the comments section, many Malaysians praised the work done by the contractor, with some not believing that the toilets only cost RM70,000 to build.
One commenter said that this is by far the best-looking school toilet he’s seen, a sentiment shared by many other commenters.
Besides that, another commenter joked that the toilets are so nice that students might be enticed to skip class and just lepak at the toilet, especially given that there are chairs inside.
