A Malaysia Volunteers Corps Department (RELA) member, Natrah Ahmad, passed away after a lorry crashed into her while she was directing traffic for a marathon at Batu 10, Jalan Gombak Lama, on Saturday (February 22).
According to a report by China Press, the woman, who was in her 70s, was dubbed ‘Opah’ and was much beloved by community members in Gombak, who had become familiar with her as she was often seen directing traffic and guarding school crosswalks.

Having heard of Opah’s passing, many who knew and respected her were devastated.
Among them, content creator, Wan LuQman, took to his Facebook page to share how he had seen Opah just the day before she passed.

He wrote, “This is the volunteer who used to guide traffic in front of my kid’s school. I never knew her name, we all called her ‘Opah’. She used to guide traffic in front of (my kid’s) school and then switch to guiding traffic in front of other schools. I occasionally saw her here and there around Gombak.”
“Yesterday (February 21), I saw her guiding traffic in front of the Al Khairiyah Mosque. I had the opportunity to smile at her. After Friday prayers, I bought coconut water at Razali Tomyam, in front of the mosque.”
He went on to explain that the weather was scorching hot at that time, and in that moment, he thought that he should buy Opah some coconut water and have a chat with her. But, being in a rush made him decide otherwise.
“But, for some reason, I didn’t buy it for her, maybe because I was in a rush to send my child to their religious class and I didn’t remember that intention. Today (February 22), I’m really upset because Opah passed away, she was hit by a lorry in an accident in Gombak,” he added.
He ended his post by saying a prayer for Opah’s soul.
