Some people may be older than you but not everyone is okay with being called aunty or uncle.

A 35-year-old woman in South Korea went berserk after being offended when someone called her “Ajumma”, a Korean word for a married or middle-aged woman, sometimes also known as aunty. The woman was on the train, minding her own business until someone addressed her as “Ajumma”, and that was when all hell broke loose.

She took out the sashimi knife that she had with her and started attacking people on the train, resulting in the injury of 3 passengers, including a 60-year-old woman.

We guess it’s a cue for us to think twice (or thrice) before calling an elderly “aunty”.

The tragedy happened in Seoul back in March this year, and she was recently sentenced to 8 years of prison, effective 21 September. When she was arrested by the police, they confiscated an array of kitchen tools from the “Ajumma”, including the sashimi knife which was the attack weapon, 2 cleavers, and an art knife.

The knives were purchased in 2 different batches – the day of the incident, and a day prior to the tragedy, reported Oriental Daily.

3 injuries and 8 years behind bars, all for the dissatisfaction of being called “aunty.” Regardless, if you don’t fancy being addressed in certain ways, it’s best to highlight the matter in an appropriate way before going amok and causing injuries.
