Deputy Finance Minister I, Datuk Seri Ahmad bin Maslan has clarified that students of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) are not eligible for the RM200 eBeliaRahmah eWallet credit aid as they’re already receiving monthly allowances from the government.
In case you’re not familiar, eBeliaRahmah is an RM200 one-off eWallet credit aid for youth aged 18 to 20 and full-time higher education institution (IPT) students.
However, while IPG students are still considered part of the latter, they are exempted from receiving the initiative as they’re already getting RM450 monthly allowances from the government.
As reported by Berita Harian, Ahmad asserted that the monthly allowances were introduced by the previous federal government and are being continued by the current Unity Government.
Hence, given that IPG students already benefit from the RM450 monthly allowances, it is only fair that only other IPT students, who don’t receive such benefits, get to enjoy the RM200 eBeliaRahmah aid.
The Deputy Finance Minister was responding to a question by a reporter in Johor Bahru today, which brought up a recent politician’s statement questioning why IPG students didn’t receive the eBeliaRahmah aid.
While no names were mentioned, it is believed that the query refers to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Muar, Syed Saddiq who recently raised the issue on social media.
Accordingly, the Deputy Finance Minister said,
“I hope that the politician checks the facts as besides the monthly allowances, IPG students are also getting other privileges,”
