Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal bin Saleh will remain as UMNO Youth Chief, at least until next week.
Previously, Dr Akmal had hinted that he might step down, suggesting he may have reached a point where it was time to make way for new leadership. However, any changes will only be made during the UMNO General Assembly 2025 (PAU 2025).

UMNO Youth Chief to announce his position in the party and government next week
Today (10 January), Dr Akmal hinted at his future, announcing that he will reveal more details next week.
“My future in the party and government will be announced during PAU 2025, which is scheduled to take place next week.”
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Dr Akmal, who is also the assemblyperson for Merlimau, said that the announcement would be made after he presents the party’s grassroots voices gathered through branches and divisions to the annual gathering.
According to him, he had previously voiced the views of the people during the UMNO Youth Special Convention on 3 January, by directly listening to the grievances and aspirations of the public. This commitment, he said, would be continued in this PAU.
“I will also announce my position in the party and government in PAU next week,” Dr Akmal revealed.

In recent months, the Merlimau assemblyperson has spoken out about re-evaluating UMNO’s role in the unity government, urging party leaders to consider moving into opposition if key “red lines” involving race, religion, and royalty are (3R) crossed.
He then hinted at the possibility of stepping down, saying he had delivered his efforts and struggles in his political journey and had done his utmost. Dr Akmal added that the struggle, “driven by good intentions for religion, race, and country,” would continue even in his absence. He also expressed his gratitude to supporters for standing by him.
