The AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered to the elderly aged 60 and above after being certified safe for use in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba said that individuals aged 60 and above were assessed as most suitable to receive it and that the AstraZeneca vaccine will be used in the second phase of the immunisation program, reported Berita Harian.
However, he did not specify when the second phase is scheduled to start.
It was reported that 280,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine had arrived safely in Malaysia, according to Astro Awani.
Previously, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin announced on 12 April that individuals aged 60 and above would be given the Sinovac vaccine in Phase 2.
The Covid-19 Vaccine Access Guarantee Special Committee made the decision after taking into consideration the latest data and data from other countries that showed the Sinovac vaccine is safe, effective and stable for those aged 60 and above, he said, according to CNA.
