Falling asleep at work is expected if you are sleep-deprived, but a police traffic who recently fell asleep standing up has raised concerns among many Malaysians.
A clip that shows the police officer falling asleep has circulated online, where he is seen apparently falling asleep standing up on the road while on duty. The person who recorded the video in the car was also heard asking the officer on duty to wake up but to no avail.
The officer remained asleep with his head looking down even after the car passed him by.
Sleep deprivation is perhaps not a concern anymore, but his safety is. In this case, we can’t help but wonder, what if he collapses on that road that is filled with cars? According to a statement released by PDRM yesterday (February 14), the incident took place at the Uplands Roundabout in Kuching, Sarawak on February 10.
“We will be observing the officer’s health condition for further action. We would also like to thank the netizens for the concern about the officer’s health,” said the police chief of Kuching.
“He’s probably ill”
Prior to the statement which was released by PDRM, many Malaysians have expressed their concern and sympathy. Some also highlighted the possibility of narcolepsy.
“Look on the bright side. He’s probably ill and there’s no need to attack him personally. Have some empathy, and the world will be a better place.”
“I’m really worried about him. I would’ve gone down from my car to check on him, I fear it might be a heart attack, or something like that.”
“It’s a sign of illness, not simply sleep deprivation.”
“We really have to respect these frontliners who sacrificed for us.”
“His sugar level has probably lost control, which prompted him to get tired easily.”
“If he fainted on the road, it would’ve been dangerous.”

Work is undeniably important, and so is your physical and mental health. We’re glad that the viral video has gained the attention of PDRM and hopefully, the officer receives necessary treatment.
