Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an additional public holiday in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations, which will be observed nationwide.
Speaking to the media today (15 March), Anwar explained that an extra holiday would be granted depending on the date Aidilfitri falls.

For illustration purposes only
- Monday, 23 March will be granted if Aidilfitri falls on Friday, 20 March.
- If the celebration falls on Saturday, 21 March, the extra holiday will be observed on Friday, 20 March.
“Regardless of whether Aidilfitri falls on Friday or Saturday, don’t worry. The government will still provide an additional day off for the festivities,” he said.
Anwar added that the extra holiday is intended as a token of appreciation for Malaysians’ hard work
“The holiday is given because everyone has been working hard, and you deserve it,” he said.
The announcement is expected to allow workers to enjoy the festive period without concerns over work schedules, giving families more time to gather and observe Aidilfitri traditions in comfort. The additional holiday reflects the government’s recognition of the workforce’s contributions and underscores the importance of family and community during the festive season.

In a Facebook post, PMX said the MADANI government will implement the Skim Harga Maksimum Musim Perayaan (SHMMP) Aidilfitri 2026 from March 14 to 28.
The 15-day scheme aims to keep the prices of essential goods under control nationwide, with authorities closely monitoring prices to ensure affordability.
Nearly 95% of regulated items are expected to see price reductions, helping Malaysians celebrate a more joyful and affordable Syawal. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to easing cost-of-living pressures during festive periods.
With Aidilfitri just around the corner, Malaysians can now plan their celebrations with the assurance of an extra day to rest and spend time with loved ones.
