Everyone gets inspiration, or rather reminders in different ways. Some gain them through tough life experience, while others learn through lots of readings or movies.
Inspired by real life events, PDRM released the trailer of a movie yesterday which focuses on the battle of love scams. The movie, which is titled OPPA, highlights multiple victims being conned by love scam and according to the teaser of the movie, here’s how the movie will be different in the perspective of a Malaysian film.
1st ever Malaysian awareness film
“I swear to God, I’ll marry you.”
This is perhaps 1 of the most typical lines a scammer will convince you about the “pure love” to get you to lend him as much money as he wants. The trailer starts off with this dialogue, before highlighting OPPA as the 1st ever Malaysian awareness film about the rampaging love scams.
The film also features real-life police officers in action, and it is also the 1st Malaysian Madani film – multilingual and multiracial movie.
From the trailer, you can definitely see OPPA is a movie with appearances from Malay, Chinese and Indian actors. From the way we see it, it’s definitely killing two birds with one stone – promoting the multicultural elements of Malaysia while raising awareness about the love scams which have wreaked havoc in many people’s lives.
Malaysian actors, Lee Qi, Amanda Tan, Jacqueline Goh and Sadiq M. Jamil star in the movie. Korean actor, Jang Tae-Oh will lead the film, hence OPPA. This will definitely be a good news and something to look forward for K-pop fans. It is also notable that ASP Rahmat Fitri, real-life policeman who is well known for raising awareness about online scams on TikTok will also be in OPPA.
Despite not having an exact release date, OPPA is expected to be released in cinemas by the end of 2023. It is also a collaboration between Dream Film and PDRM. You can watch the trailer here.
Do you think OPPA will raise more awareness about love scams in Malaysia? God knows the amount of money that the scammers have stolen from the victim, and only the victims themselves know the pain to go through the struggle.
