The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kinabatangan Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin in a rousing speech in Parliament while debating the Amendment Bill for the Drug Defendants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 revealed some distressing information about the alleged ubiquitous nature of drug abuse in Sabah.

Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat, Bung claimed that syabu or methamphetamine is being sold like pisang goreng in Sabah, as it’s openly available at every corner of the state.

Furthermore, he claimed that the illegal substance is being sold as cheap as RM30 in Sabah and questioned the lack of action by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

The Kinabatangan MP asserted,

“Drugs such as syabu are like pisang goreng. You can get it at every corner of Sabah, can get it for just RM30.

“Even I am shocked, where did these drugs come from? Where is AADK, the anti-drug department of PDRM?”

Bung wants Malaysia to adopt the Philippines’ strict anti-drug approach

Earlier in his speech, Bung urged Malaysia to follow the strict anti-drug approach previously adopted by the Philippines under its former President Duterte.

He said that in the past, drugs were ubiquitous in the Philippines and that the country is 1 of the main exporters of drugs.

However, the country is now “completely free from drugs” thanks to its authorities executing drug dealers, regardless if they’re in uniform bodies or politicians.

Hence, the Kinabatangan MP called for the Government to have the political will to fight drug abuse.
