M’sian Couple Travels 40km on a Dirt Bike Weekly Just to Get to Work

Although we may have our gripes with the daily KL traffic when commuting to and from work, at least the majority of us urbanites do not have to travel through jungles and dirt roads on a usual basis.

This is the reality that a couple in Kelantan go through daily. According to Harian Metro, Muhammad Haqqi Annazili Rusdi and his wife, Noor Syazwanie Mohamad, traverse 40km on a dirt bike every week to reach their workplace, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bihai in Gua Musang.

Their commute involves navigating through thick forests and muddy paths on a 90-minute ride on their scrambler motorcycle.

“We would go out together on motorbikes to go to the school in the countryside. The journey is very long as it takes up to an hour and a half from the main road.”

Haqqi works as a school operations assistant and said that the route taken to get to school was very challenging because it was also inhabited by snakes, tigers and wild elephants.

Meanwhile, Syazwanie, who has served three years as a school student management assistant, said the most difficult memory to forget was when they had fallen into the mud while riding the motorcycle.

“We were very careful when passing through the area. However, we still fell because the path was uneven and full of mud. But I’m happy because it was a valuable experience for me and my husband while working here.”

“If there is a programme in a school located in another village, we will try to go to locations that are located 10 kilometers to 40 kilometers from each other,” he said.

Despite the challenging commute, both of them have expressed gratitude for one another. “From a positive point of view, working in the same remote location in the forest allows us to share the same problems even though there are many challenges to overcome,” he said.
