By now you would’ve seen and heard about what the frontman of The 1975, Matt Healy, had done on the first day of the Good Vibes Festival (GVF).

If you would like a little summary of what he did, then we’ll sum it up in a sentence. Basically, he ranted about the Malaysian government’s stance on the LGBTQ+ community and proceeded to make out with his band member before getting stopped. This action had inadvertently caused the whole Good Vibes Festival to be cancelled even though there are 2 days left.

Many fan accounts on Twitter have stated that there was more to his attitude and performance, so we will be listing out what the fans had seen and heard at The 1975’s set during GVF.

He smoked and spat on the stage

Many fan videos have emerged of Matt Healy spitting and smoking on stage. Not only is it unhygienic, but it is also very disrespectful. Please click play on the video at your own risk, we gagged at how gross it was.

Matt Healy was allegedly drunk

In some of the videos, you can see that the frontman was bringing a green glass bottle around the stage and it seems to be a wine/champagne bottle.  Performing while you’re drunk is quite disrespectful to the fans who paid to see you but to do it openly at that is downright inappropriate.

He crushed a drone

During the set, Matt Healy was seen capturing a Good Vibes Festival drone when it flew close to him. After he got it, he threw it on the ground with much force and if that wasn’t enough, he stomped on it with all his might, undoubtedly destroying it.

He “punished” the fans

In part of his incoherent rant where he jumped from a personal story to the Malaysian government’s LGBTQ+ stance, The 1975 frontman had admitted that they purposely changed the setlist as he was “furious”.

“I’m not in the f*cking mood anymore. Unfortunately, you don’t get a set of loads of uplifting songs because I’m f*cking furious.”

Other than that, many fans also reported that he started the show by saying: “I’m not in the f*cking mood, Kuala Lumpur.” A transcript of his rant can be found here.

Lastly, he dissed the Malaysian government and kissed his bassist

Videos of this have gone viral but The 1975 vocalist had essentially said in his rant that the Malaysian government is “f*cking ridiculous to tell people what they can do with (points to groin area) and (points to mouth).”

“If you want to invite me to do a show, you can f*ck off. I’ll take your money, you can ban me.”

Matt Healy then made out with his bandmate on stage and started to play the next song. After that song, their set was cut and he exited saying, “We just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, goodbye”.

PUSPAL mentioned in a statement that a police report has been lodged against the artist and organiser of the Good Vibes Festival for failing to abide by PUSPAL’s regulations.

“When the application was made, the organisers promised that they will take full responsibility for that artist’s performance. Hence, PUSPAL will be blacklisting The 1975 from performing in our country.”

This move has certainly angered many fans as they have forked out large sums of money to see some of their favourite acts- only for it to be cancelled. We hope that this situation will be resolved soon.
