Christmas is known for being the “most wonderful time of the year”, but if you’ve been the one hosting parties, decorating the house, preparing the Christmas dinners and everyone’s presents, you may not find the festivities so wonderful anymore.
So, if you’re looking to cut down on your workload and just do the bare minimum this Christmas, this article’s for you!
1. Blast Christmas songs everywhere
Whether you like them or not, Christmas songs are not only catchy, but they’re also a sure fire way to get anyone into the festive mood, especially this Mariah Carey one, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”.
If you are feeling extra lazy this year, just blast Christmas songs everywhere like in the office, in your car, at home and at the gym. Even if you’re not doing anything else for the holidays, just singing along to the songs will be fun, especially if your family and friends join in.
2. Binge watch Christmas movies
If you’re more of a movie person, Christmas movies are the way to go if you just want to do the bare minimum this holiday season.
With so many options nowadays from Hallmark, Lifetime, Netflix and more, snuggle into your couch and indulge in your favourite family tearjerkers, love stories and nostalgic classics. Some of our favourites are Klaus, Love Actually and Home Alone.
3. Order a Christmas dinner set
Cooking is not an easy task, especially when you have, like, ten mouths to feed. If this is a challenge that thrills you, we salute you. But if you are tired of stressing out about the 1001 dishes you have to prepare days before the actual Christmas dinner, why not order in?
Plenty of restaurants these days offer Christmas dinner sets that you can order to make life easier. Assemble your perfect Christmas feast with the timeless Christmas roasts from Table & Apron or tingle your taste buds with the mingling flavours from PichaEats’ Season Meat-ings Dinner Set.
4. Give ang pao
You might think that giving ang paos instead of presents is a very lazy thing to do, and you’re probably right.
However, giving ang paos actually has a major benefit compared to giving gifts! It removes the anxiety of choosing a gift, the fear of your recipient not liking it and the guilt of not using or discarding a present you received.
By giving ang paos, we have more freedom to choose how we’d ideally like to use the money!
5. Use a paper bag
Nonetheless, if there is something you’ve been dying to get your loved one but can’t be bothered to wrap the item before gifting it, just put it in a paper bag!
Honestly, we don’t think it’s that big of a deal not to wrap your Christmas presents as it saves paper! By reusing the piles of paper bags we get from shopping, especially the pretty branded ones, we can prolong the life cycle of these perfectly good paper.
It may even make for a good laugh if you use a branded paper bag, like an Apple one, but don’t actually have an Apple product in it.
6. Don’t put up a Christmas tree
The iconic Christmas tree is arguably the most famous symbol of Christmas. Any effort to decorate a space for Christmas is incomplete without it.
Although it may not take too much effort to adorn and light up a Christmas tree, we are doing the bare minimum here. So, just string some lights across a plant you already have and call it a day!
7. Take pictures in shopping malls
Every holiday season, shopping malls would try to one up each other with their extravagant Christmas decorations or bigger-than-life displays. There’ll be reindeers, people dressed like Santa Claus, giant Christmas trees and even fake snow!
So, if you’re not doing any decorating at home, take advantage of these malls to get into the festive mood! Gather your friends, channel your inner child and pose like your mom’s friend group. It’ll be a blast.
8. Get cultured
When it comes to this time of the year, everything becomes Christmas-themed including the arts scene. If this is something you’re into, check out the various performances that will be taking place around town this month. It’s super low-effort because all you need to do is buy your ticket and attend!
Some of the shows we’re looking forward to are the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre’s (KLPAC) “Christmas Extravaganza Concert” and the ballet, “Nutcracker and Clara’s Dream”.
There’s no shame in doing the bare minimum for the holidays. Let us know how you’ll be celebrating!
