Tolls have lower fares as compared to parking rates for some places and yet, many road users are still NOT paying toll fares and speeding through the toll gate.

A toll company for the East Coast Highway recently released a series of car registration numbers, which the owners happily evaded from paying toll fares. 8 vehicles share the same registration number (5111) with different alphabets, and one of them has been identified.

Sin Chew reported that all vehicles with the number “5111” are registered under different names but everyone is found to be in the same industry, so it is far from a pure coincidence.

The toll company has also issued Letters of Demand (LOD) to the vehicle owners before displaying their car registration numbers publicly as the last resort. Efforts to contact and communicate with the car owners have also been made but to no avail.

We may have heard about drivers of fancy cars avoiding paying tolls but to have a tow truck doing the same is a rare sight.

The toll company also said that if needed, relevant CCTV footage and images will be provided to the police.

If you’re happily evading paying toll fares, just keep this in mind – you can run but you can’t hide. It’s every road user’s responsibility to pay the toll fares, regardless of who you are or what car you drive.
