Malaysians are extremely ambitious people, especially when it comes to going on road trips to eat and sightsee. We plan to do hundreds of things, like see all the scenery, take all the photos, and eat all the food; but how many times do we actually successfully carry out all our plans?
Here are some expectation vs. reality moments we’re all familiar with when it comes to road trips in Malaysia:
1. When you’re looking forward to the food
Today, a lot of the food from our favourite stalls outstation are no longer prepared by the original owner. Many of them have been taken over by other relatives, their children or even workers, and it just doesn’t taste as good as it used to anymore.
2. Navigating the road
Especially during long car rides, there’s a high chance all your passengers would fall asleep after just 20 minutes into the ride. So now you’re forced to drive and figure out the roads all on your own. Gee, great team work guys.
3. When you plan to split costs
Petrol and TnG costs are not cheap leh! Especially when you travel somewhere further like Penang or Johor, from KL. It can easily cost more than RM100, and you have to drive most of the way some more. Sien ah.
4. When trying to set a budget

Budgets almost never work out, especially since we’re on a road trip and we want to buy and eat everything. We probably won’t be back here anytime soon, so might as well splurge a bit right!
5. When you want to see all the places
Road trips are usually a one-day thing, so we try our best to visit as many places as possible, but as we all know, we almost never visit all the places we initially planned to. Mainly because we forget to factor in the Malaysian traffic and sometimes we spend way too much time at one place, or we just get lazy to visit all of them.
6. When you want to have an early start
If there’s anything more important to us Malaysians than food, it’s sleep. Especially if we’re studying or working, weekends are our time to switch off our alarm clocks and sleep in until lunch time. So we can forget about starting our journey at 6AM.
7. When you try to be strategic about your plans

Especially places that are known to be tourist attractions, like the Klebang coconut shake in Melaka or the Funny Mountain tau fu fah in Ipoh, these places are constantly jam-packed with locals and tourists alike. You all nothing else better to do ah?!
8. When you try to be a photographer/videographer
The most important thing about road trips is returning with full stomachs and pretty photos/videos to show off to our friends! How to show off if the photos and videos come out blurry and shaky though?! The struggle is indeed real.
If you’re familiar with this problem, you’re not alone. Sometimes our cameras or phones just aren’t good enough to take good footage or maybe we’re constantly on the move and can’t stop in time to take a proper shot; whatever it is, it’s rather depressing.
Don’t fret though, I mean, have you seen Sony’s brand new Action Cam?!
Perfect for both casual and active use, the Sony Action Cam records and captures images in 4K and Full HD, with Balanced Optical SteadyShot (B.O.SS) image stabilisation. With this, users can expect way less shake in their photos and videos!
