Another water disruption, you say? Yup, we’re not liking it either, but trust us when we say there’s a really good reason for it this time.
The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has announced today (April 18) that 4.14 million consumers from 577 areas around Klang Valley will experience a water supply disruption for up to four days – yup, four whole days – starting April 24.
This is to upgrade the Selangor River Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant, and ensure that there won’t be other unexpected water supply disruptions caused by power failure in the future. In short, it’ll do us more good in the long run! Malay Mail also reported that the areas will include Klang, Shah Alam, Petaling, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.
As the upgrading will be conducted from 9am to 11pm on April 24 (Wednesday), the disruption may go on for at least a day. “Air Selangor expects about 50% of the affected areas will start receiving piped water supply again in 24 hours,” the statement read. As such, consumers have been advised to conserve water in preparation, as well as avoid water wastage.
On Air Selangor’s end, steps will also be taken to lighten consumers’ burden, such as providing more water tankers, static tanks, public taps, water refilling stations and distributing bottled water. There will be a steady flow of water supplied to hospitals and dialysis centres as well.
Consumers can stay updated on the status of the restoration of the water supply via Air Selangor’s Facebook page, Twitter, and its application.
If there’s a time to be extra careful with your water usage, it’s now! Don’t be that person who gets stuck in the middle of a shower without water, and start saving up our precious H2O!
