A 50-year-old man impersonated a police officer before robbing and raping a 20-year-old woman in Bintulu
The suspect was arrested yesterday (4 November) in Sibu at 2:30 PM. Bintulu District Police Chief, Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali, said that following intelligence gathered over the past five days, the authorities were able to track down and subsequently arrest the suspect.
Initial investigations found that in the incident at around 9 PM, the suspect disguised himself as a police officer and deceived the 20-year-old victim by offering financial assistance.
The suspect then took the victim to the scene of the incident, “seized” her mobile phone before raping her.

The case is being investigated under 3 Penal Code provisions
The suspect is now being detained to assist in the investigation, and the case is being investigated under Sections 392/376 and Section 170 of the Penal Code for robbery, rape, and impersonating a civil servant, respectively, as reported by Sinar Harian.
Earlier, two men in Ipoh, Perak, also impersonated PDRM officers, but claimed that they were auxiliary police in an attempt to extort RM300 from a teenager for his illegally modified bike. Both impersonators were then arrested by the police and fined RM5,000.
Additionally, the Bintulu District Police Chief also advised the public, especially women, to always be vigilant and not easily trust individuals who introduce themselves as civil servants without valid verification.
