After the gas pipeline exploded in Putra Heights on the second day of Raya (April 1), some residents were forced to jump into the nearby river due to the extreme heat.
One of the residents, Ahmad Syawal, immediately rushed into the river after seeing some kids and their family members in the water. He called for help, and that was when 5 Pakistani men also joined in the rescue mission, despite knowing the dangers.
The video of their brave acts was captured on TikTok @shahzamin99 before the clip circulated online.

One of the Pakistani men, Amir Nawab, 48, said that he and his friends sincerely wanted to help, especially after seeing some people in trouble looking like they were about to drown. Amir saw more people going to the river and tried to stop them, but to no avail.
One of his friends had already jumped into the river to help save the victims.
“We saw a child and knew it was dangerous because the water current was strong.”

Another Pakistani man, 48-year-old Jaafar Ali, said he knew the bravery was dangerous, but he didn’t think much about his life at that moment. He just wanted to save people in distress.
“At that time, I jumped into the river without thinking about anything. All I thought of was to save the people.”
“Thank God we could help the people,” Jaafar expressed.

During the incident, nearly 20 people were rescued from the river, and some victims suffered from burns on their skin due to the extreme heatwave, reported Sinar Harian and Harian Metro.
The gas pipeline fire victims are currently seeking shelter at the Putra Heights Mosque, the nearest house of worship to the scene. The government also announced multiple forms of aid to ease the burden of the victims.
