41 men were arrested after they attempted to gather and participate in a ‘war game’ using imitation firearms at the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) reserve land in Gebeng, Kuantan.

According to a press statement by the police and a report by Sinar Harian, Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah shared that all the men, aged 21 to 66, come from various job backgrounds, including civil servants, soldiers, engineers, doctors and students.

They were ultimately detained on suspicion of possessing imitation firearms without a valid license or permit. The police found and seized 406 units of imitation firearms and accessories estimated to be worth more than RM100,000.

The gathering came to light when a member of the public contacted the police to inform them that there were armed men, including some wearing military-style clothing, in the undeveloped TLDM land.

War Game 2

“Acting on the information, the police, in collaboration with the TLDM Kuantan special unit, carried out a special operation, OP Laras, at the location from 3 PM to 6:30 PM. In the operation, a man riding in a luxury Toyota Vellfire MPV was arrested with an M4 air rifle and accessories at about 3 PM,”

“A total of 39 other men were arrested while gathering at the scene, believed to be attending a briefing before starting a ‘war game’ activity using their own imitation firearms,” he said.

Additionally, another man in camouflage clothing was then arrested in a Proton X70 vehicle with a tactical bag and 2 air rifle barrels.

If convicted under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, they each can face up to 7 years in prison or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both.
