Four police officers were remanded for five days by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court, Melaka today (June 24) after being suspected of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM2,000 in return for not taking action against a man found alone with another woman in a vehicle along Jalan Melaka Mall here on June 13.

The remand order against the suspects, aged 26 to 40, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman until Saturday after an application was made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Melaka.

The suspects are two police officers with the rank of corporal, aged 33 and 36, a constable, 26, and a police volunteer with the rank of corporal, aged 40.

All suspects are believed to have detained the complainant, who was at the time alone in a vehicle with his fiancée in the Jalan Melaka Mall parking lot.

“The complainant (the man) was then taken to the police station, where they are believed to have asked for a bribe of RM4,000 but the victim was only able to give RM2,000 in cash,” sources said, as reported by China Press and Harian Metro.

Melaka MACC Director, Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
