A 3-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being bitten by a dog while returning from a playground at Lake Edge, Puchong, yesterday (Thursday, July 3).

According to Kosmo, the Serdang Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad, shared that the incident happened when a 61-year-old woman was walking home with her grandson, after playing at the playground at around 8:10am.

“Suddenly, a German Shepherd mixed breed dog came out of its owner’s house and attacked the complainant’s grandson before biting his left calf, causing serious injuries,” he said.

An investigation into this matter was opened under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence involving animals.

“If convicted, the owner can be sentenced to up to 6 months in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.”

The dog’s owner has been arrested

The police have since arrested a 60-year-old woman, who is the owner of the dog, to assist with the investigation.

“Initial investigations found that the woman does not have a dog license from the local authorities,” he explained, while adding that further investigations are still underway.

He also took the time to advise all pet owners to ensure that their pets are well cared for and do not disrupt public safety.
