3 students from UiTM Dungun sadly passed away, and another was badly hurt after the two motorcycles they were on got hit by a car driven by a woman near the university on Jalan Pantai Sura on October 9.

According to reports by Bernama, Dungun Fire and Rescue Station chief, Sharizal Shamsudin, said they got a call about the accident at 7:26 PM and quickly sent out 10 firefighters to the scene.

“All 3 victims were confirmed dead at the scene”

Sharizal said that early reports showed the crash involved 2 motorcycles, with 4 students in their 20s riding them, and an SUV driven by a woman.

The accident occurred when the woman, driving at high speed, crashed into 2 motorcycles from behind while they were on their way to the university. One of the motorcycles got dragged about 60 meters after the impact.

The woman was showing signs of mental distress

Sharizal shared with Bernama that the rider and passenger on 1 motorcycle sadly lost their lives, and out of the 2 people on the other motorcycle, 1 suffered from serious injuries while the other was pronounced dead at the scene, adding up to 3 fatalities in total.

He also mentioned that the female driver, who seemed to be in mental distress, managed to get out of her car after it crashed into a drain. She was then taken to the police station for further action.

“The injured victim was sent to the hospital, and the remains of 3 other victims were handed over to the police,” he added.

Statement from the university

Following the tragic accident, UiTM Terengganu branch released a statement about the crash that happened on the road in front of the campus and involved 4 of their students.

The statement confirmed the tragic news about 3 of their students who lost their lives and another student who was seriously injured.

The injured student is currently getting treatment at Dungun Hospital and will be moved to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for further care.

The university expressed how shaken it is by this incident, extending its condolences to the families of the victims while promising to provide support and assistance to those affected.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families. May they find strength during this challenging time.
