Three sisters in Hebei, China visited their father’s grave over Chinese New Year to burn joss papers but were unfortunately met with an explosion that killed all three of them on the spot.

In what looked like an accident, the police later revealed that it was premeditated murder, and the killer was a relative.

The man who set up the explosives that killed the sisters was their uncle, the Chinese police confirmed.

The villagers nearby thought it was the sound of firecrackers, but when they got closer, they found the women’s bodies on the ground and immediately contacted the police. The horrific incident took place on the 3rd day of the Chinese New Year (January 31).

The deceased were:

  • Wang Jingjing (37 years old)
  • Wang Huanhuan (33 years old)
  • Wang Huanna (26 years old)

It was due to a family feud

After investigations, the police identified the suspect and discovered that the deceased’s own uncle, Wang Moudong, and his late brother (the girls’ father) Wang Jushan’s family had a feud over farmland.

The dispute was caused by unclear demarcation of the farmland boundary, as both families believed that the ridges of land on the border were theirs, and the two brothers quarrelled many times and even fought. Jushan passed away in March 2021.

The matter escalated when Jushan was said to be buried illegally, forcing his wife to move his grave to somewhere else.

In May 2023, Moudong’s wife was beaten and slightly injured by Jushan’s second daughter, Huanhuan, over a trivial matter. The conflict escalated again, and Moudong decided to kill his niece, with whom he had been at odds for a long time.

Fast forward to May 2024, Moudong bought 2 boxes of firecrackers to build a homemade bomb. He removed the explosives from the firecrackers and made an explosive device on his own. In December, he buried the explosive in the grave, which ultimately killed the three sisters a month later.

Moudong was arrested two days after the explosion and confessed to the premeditated murder, reported Oriental Daily. The second trial for the case is set to take place on May 28.
