The heat nowadays has been unforgiving and it has already claimed its second life.
BERNAMA reported that a 3-year-old boy succumbed to heatstroke after playing in a car at the back of his house in Kampung Teluk, Kelantan.
His grandmother said that on 29 March, the child played with his siblings in their grandfather’s car at the back of the house. His siblings wanted to go home but the young child insisted on staying in the car.
It was only a few hours later that he was discovered wildly conscious.
“The child was probably accidentally locked inside the car and he was only discovered in a semi-conscious state nearly two hours later,“ his grandmother said.
When the young toddler asked to play with his brothers in the backyard, his mother was busy in the kitchen.
When they found him, he was vomiting in the car and was rushed to the Bachok Health Clinic, however, the young boy succumbed to his heatstroke on Monday, April 1 while he was receiving treatment at the hospital.
Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr. Zaini Husin confirmed that the young boy had died due to heatstroke at 11:20 am last Monday.
This makes the boy the second victim of heatstroke whereas the first case was reported in Pahang where a 22-year-old individual who passed away due to the same reason.
With the festive season and holidays approaching, we hope that all Malaysians will hydrate and cool themselves properly when possible to prevent more cases of heatstroke.
