A 22-year-old man fell from a bridge into the Kuantan River soon after a video call with his ex-girlfriend.
In a statement by the Fire & Rescue Department in Kuantan and Sinar Harian, a witness said he passed by the area at 10:43 PM on Monday (March 3) and saw a motorcycle parked at the roadside. The engine was still running.
The witness also saw a mobile phone on the ground, and the video call was still on. He spoke to the woman on the phone, who told him that the owner of the phone wanted to jump from the bridge.

The witness immediately called the authorities.
Kuantan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched at 11:30 PM with the assistance of the Kuantan District Rescue Agency, including the fire department and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
Initial investigations revealed that the victim worked at a factory in Kuantan. The authorities also spoke to the woman on the phone, who said she had broken up with the man in December 2024 after one year together.
In another post by the state Fire & Rescue Department last night (March 4), Public Relations Officer Zulfadli Zakaria said that two tracker dogs, Frankie and Denti from the fire department’s Detection Dog Unit (K9), had been deployed in the SAR operation.

The victim’s body was found this morning
In the latest statement by the state Fire Department this morning (March 5), the body of the victim had been found around 8:15 AM, about 1 KM away from where he fell.

The body has been handed to the police for post-mortem.
