Yesterday (3 July 2018), we learnt that our ex-prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was arrested at his private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta for his alleged involvement in the 1MDB graft-scandal.

Although the authorities said that they have solid proof for Najib’s involvement in the scandal, some Malaysians still believe that he is innocent. Hence, many of his supporters have decided to protest against his arrest by gathering at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, where Najib will be charged today (4 July 2018), reported NST. I applaud their loyalty.

Standing in solidarity for their favourite leader, about 200 people consisting of Umno members and individuals gathered at 7.30am to support Najib as he arrived at the complex in a Proton Inspira.

Hoisting up the sign #FreeNajib, the group also sang to show their moral support but was stopped shortly after the authorities requested them “to maintain order”.

According to the Umno Pekan Puteri chief, Sida Tantiana Sariat, the group of loyalist gathered there to demand Najib’s release as they believe that he was arrested without evidence. But, didn’t the authorities say there was enough evidence?

She was quoted as saying,

“No need to arrest him in such manner. We want the authorities to free Najib. Other party members from Pontian and Temerloh will be joining us to show their support to our division chief.”

Similarly, business consultant, Dr Philip Loh also believes that thorough investigation was not conducted prior to the arrest.

“We want this to be stopped, is our Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) bringing back his iron-fist rule.”

“Let him (Najib) be tried in a proper way, he has been treated unfairly, harassed and humiliated since the 14th General Election ended.”

“Is this the new government that we want? Imagine how normal people will be treated?” he said.

On a side note, a source revealed that Najib could possibly face up to 10 criminal charges for criminal breach of trust. That’s a lot of charges!

Najib definitely has some loyal supporters who believe in his innocence. However, surely the authorities have concrete reasons for arresting him. So, let us all stay calm and let the authorities handle this issue!
