As we all know, Thaipusam and Chap Goh Mei (the 15th day and last day of the Chinese New Year), fell on the same day this year.

This means that it was a time of celebration for two races and many people took to the streets to celebrate the festivities.

In a TikTok video by user rajaratnamsabaratnam2 that has gone viral, we see a colourful and well-lit Thaipusam chariot in the middle of the street with music playing.

According to the caption, this took place at Lebuh Ampang as the chariot was on the way to Batu Caves.

However, what is peculiar is that there were 2 blue lions doing the lion dance in front of the stationary chariot.

Nearing the 1-minute mark, we can see the lions “nodding” their heads as if paying their respects to Lord Murugan.

Many netizens loved the exchange and said that this is the Malaysia they know and are proud of.

“It’s amazing that in Malaysia, we respect each other’s religion,” said one TikTok user.

Whether the lion dance troupe was hired or they met by pure coincidence, we do not know, but what we can say is that we hope that there will be more interactions of this kind in the future.
