On 24 November, a 15-year-old girl shockingly died after her head was caught between the steel bars of a disabled swing. This freak accident took place at a playground in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

According to The Star and Oriental Daily, the victim was at the park with her relatives at the time and she was sitting on a swing designated for wheelchair-bound people. Suddenly, her head got trapped between the steel bars, which are what possibly severely injured her neck bones.

Passersby managed to free her and alerted the Selayang Hospital to dispatch an ambulance. Sentul district police chief AC Shanmugamoorthy said,

“The victim was said to have been on the swing before her head was suddenly caught at the swing’s steel bar. This caused bleeding to her nose and ears.”

While waiting for the ambulance, the girl had received cardiopulmonary resuscitation from a member of the public and she started breathing again. A pillow was put under her head as well.

Sadly, the victim died in the hospital at 7.30pm on the same day after doctors failed to revive her. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. An investigation is ongoing as well and the swing has been cordoned off to determine the safety of the equipment.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and hopefully, such an incident will not happen again. RIP girl.
