A 15-year-old girl has been missing for over 3 days now after she left her family home in Cheras on Thursday (December 19).
According to a report by Oriental Daily, the girl, Yap Xin Yuan, allegedly lied to her mother that she was going for lion dance practice before leaving that morning.
Her parents recently held a press conference with Selangor’s Democratic Action Party (DAP) to share further details about their daughter’s disappearance.
The girl’s mother explained that after her daughter had left, she was in contact with her via WhatsApp at 3pm.
“I asked her what time she would be home, and she said she would be back after lion dance practice. Usually, her practice would end at 10:30pm, but she did not attend lion dance practice as usual that day,”
“At 10:30pm, I went to pick her up and found that there were no responses to my messages and phone calls. WhatsApp showed that the messages had been delivered, but she did not read them. Although phone calls connected, no one answered. I thought she was practising lion dancing at the basketball court, but there was no sign of her there,” her mother shared.
After seeking out the lion dance leader, the girl’s mother was told that there was no lion dance practice that day.
The boyfriend enters the picture.
After making a police report, it was revealed that the girl had a boyfriend who was a part of the lion dance group.
Upon meeting the boyfriend, who is 16 years old, he told the girl’s parents that their daughter had gone to his house at 4pm that day. The duo had then gone out for dinner together before returning to his house, where they argued about him ignoring her to watch a movie.
He then apparently told her parents that she left alone in a taxi at 5pm, in the direction of Crown City in Cheras.
They later found inconsistencies in the boyfriend’s statements.
CCTV footage and e-hailing records showed that the girl arrived at her boyfriend’s house at 8:43am, as she allegedly took an e-hailing ride to his house at 8am.
“Why did the boyfriend say that our daughter arrived at his house at 4pm and left at 5pm? According to the e-hailing records and CCTV footage, our daughter went there at 8am,” they added.
The police have since searched the boyfriend’s house, leading them to believe that the boyfriend may not be a suspect despite the girl’s family’s doubts.
Her phone has also been unreachable since Friday (December 20).
“We hope that our daughter can come back as soon as possible. We are all waiting for you. We can discuss things slowly,” they said.
Yap Xin Yuan is 15 years old, is about 155cm tall, thin, and has long hair and braces.
Should you have any relevant information as to the girl’s whereabouts, you can contact your nearest police station or the girl’s parents at 016-2855881.
We genuinely hope that the girl is found safe and sound quickly.
