An 11-year-old Malaysian boy is bravely preparing to donate his bone marrow to save his 17-year-old sister, who is currently battling cancer.
Philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, shared the family’s plight on his Facebook page. He detailed how the children’s father had returned to Malaysia from his job in Singapore to care for his daughter in a Johor hospital, only to suffer a serious accident himself.

Uncle Kentang shared:
“The father was a cook in Singapore. He returned to look after his daughter at Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI) in Johor. Having lost his job in Singapore, he became an e-hailing driver as it was more convenient for travel and allowed him to manage his own schedule.”
A family struck by double tragedy
The family’s situation worsened recently when the father was involved in a road accident.
“After finishing a driving job, he was crossing a road when he was knocked down by a motorcyclist. He suffered severe injuries,” the philanthropist explained.
Despite his own physical pain and financial hardship, the father remained focused on his sick daughter. He informed Uncle Kentang that he would be taking his 11-year-old son to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for the bone marrow transplant.
Tests confirmed the boy is a match for his sister, and he did not hesitate to volunteer for the procedure.

Recognising that the family would require accommodation for at least a week, alongside funds for food and basic necessities, Uncle Kentang pledged to cover all costs.
“We will provide a free stay, a driver, food, and financial assistance,” Uncle Kentang stated.
“I stand tall, proud, and honoured by this young boy’s courage in helping his 17-year-old sister. She was diagnosed with cancer at just 17. May God bless us all and give us the strength to continue helping others.”
The philanthropist added that the father is currently recuperating at home and wished him a speedy recovery.
