Just a short hour+ drive away ?? from the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Selangor is the perfect recipe for a quick escape, without breaking the bank or spending endless hours in transit.
And while we absolutely adore the famous Sky Mirror here, there’s much more to this quaint place than meets the eye. So, fasten your seatbelts (literally!), as we take you through our list of things to do in Kuala Selangor that will make your road trip one for the books. ?️??✨

1. Blue Tears
When in Kuala Selangor, an activity all nature lovers MUST NOT miss out on is the chance to witness this other-worldly sight…
You’ve heard of witnessing fireflies, but have you heard of these unique microscopic aquatic animals (a species of algae) that live in the Selangor River? They generate a stunning blue-green light at night, providing you with an unforgettable, magical sight. The best time to witness this rare, special moment is during a new moon or when the night sky is the darkest.

2. Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Taman Alam Kuala Selangor)
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP) is one of the country’s oldest and largest government-established nature parks. There is a secondary forest, a large wetland area, and a lake.
This park offers a healthy ecosystem to a wide range of flora and animals, including silver leaf monkeys, lion-tailed macaques, various crab families, and colourful fish.
See if you’re lucky enough to spot any of them when you’re there! ?
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park also boasts a lovely ‘Mangrove Boardwalk’ that is flanked by deep mangrove trees on both sides, giving it a mystical vibe.

3. Bukit Melawati
Bukit Melawati is an important historical landmark for us Malaysians. It was built by local Malays in the 16th century but was conquered by the Dutch in the early 18th century. Later on, during the Klang War (also known as the Selangor Civil War), the fort was demolished.
The Altingburg Lighthouse, which was built in 1907 continues to glow and serve as a guide for mariners traversing the Malacca Strait to this day. We suggest you get on a tram ride to the top of the hill to enjoy an excellent panoramic view of the Straits Of Malacca!

4. Sekinchan Paddy Tours with Trem Chelurut
Just a short 30-minute drive away from Kuala Selangor is Sekinchan (still in Selangor of course). Here, you get to see acres of lush green paddy fields where the sun shines bright and the air is windy.
We suggest you go for a tram ride around the villages to immerse yourself in tranquil bliss and witness glimpses of the kampung farming life here.
The tram ride by Mr. Helmi lasts for around 30 minutes and can accommodate 12-15 people. Be sure to get his contact from their Facebook page below if you’re interested in booking a ride.

5. Husin Fauzi Farm
This next attraction is perfect for animal lovers and families with young children. This animal farm operates as a petting zoo with park keepers around to introduce the animals to you. They have a wide selection of animals roaming free for you to meet and feed such as camels, deer, goats, cows, ostriches and more.
Kids can even get a pony ride for 1 round at RM5.

6. Warung Ibu Nasi Ambeng, Selangor’s Signature Dish!
Nasi Ambeng is a Javanese aromatic rice dish that includes, steamed white rice, chicken curry or chicken cooked in soy sauce, beef or chicken rendang and fried sambal. This Javanese dish is especially popular amongst the Javanese-Malay populations in Selangor. What makes the Kuala Selangor version uniquely theirs is the addition of a portion of fried noodles that is served on the same plate as the steamed rice with the other lauk mentioned.
Warung Ibu Nasi Ambeng is a prominent and favoured Nasi Ambeng restaurant in Kuala Selangor, so don’t miss out!

7. Sky Mirror World Boat Cafe
If you’ve never been in a boat cafe well then, there’s a first time for everything! Just a few meters away from the iconic Kuala Selangor “Sky Mirror” tourist attraction is this quirky little gem.
This special boat cafe floats by a jetty on the Selangor rivers for you to enjoy scenic views of the waters and sky. Here they have a simple menu of finger foods and drinks like tea. The interior of the boat is brightly decorated, providing a cute backdrop for your photos!

8. Hay! Cafe
Hay! Cafe in Sekinchan looks like a scene straight out of a Ghibli film… Beautifully located among the paddy fields, you get to enjoy the scenic surroundings and breathtaking views that extend for miles in every direction! The drinks and food here are also yummy and we suggest that you get a taste of their iced coffees and Teriyaki Chicken dish.

9. AZR Mentarang Fresh Sekinchan
Now no trip to this fishing town is made official without eating seafood, of course! If you’re a fan of Ikan Bakar, then head onto AZR Mentarang Fresh Sekinchan for nicely grilled fresh catches of the day.
They serve a special selection of seafood here like their signature mentarang which is known as the duck mouth clam that’s found at Sekinchan as well as horseshoe crab eggs!

Places to Stay ✨?️✨?️
10. D’Muara Marine Park Sg Haji
If fishing piques your interest, then this retreat is especially for you! If you’re not a fussy person then consider giving this old-timey chalet stay a chance. It’s been around since pre-covid times, and though the facilities may seem a bit dated, the sea view and easy access to fishing right from your own chalet balcony is a priceless experience.
You can rent fishing equipment for affordable prices and request for your fresh catches to be cooked! Pretty cool, right?
You also get a delicious Nasi Lemak & local Kuih breakfast in the morning, delivered to your room. The sunset and sunrise views here are amazing!

11. The Senja, Kuala Kubu Bharu
We saved our best spot for last! The Senja is a jaw-dropping bungalow house nestled in a forest, far away from noisy city centres. If you are truly yearning for an escape and to be surrounded by nature, look no further. This Airbnb listing has only good reviews and is usually fully booked so plan your trip here in advance.
The structure that can accommodate a minimum of 6 guests has a modern cozy feel to it with concrete and steel materials, offering plenty of panoramic views of Kuala Selangor. It also has a BBQ pit for you to enjoy as well!
