Sometimes, it can be really discouraging to see the state of the playgrounds in certain neighbourhoods, there might be swing sets without any swings or see-saws that have tilted over.
Seeing the poor state her neighbourhood playground is in, little Joanna who lives in Penang decided to send a letter to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
In the letter, she states how her mother had advised her to not play at the playground as it is not safe or child-friendly.
“Can you repair and make the playground beautiful for the children to play?”
Other than that, Joanna also spoke out about how there are overgrown trees near the playground and how there are not enough lights there.
After receiving this letter from the 10-year-old in February, Chow got to work and the new playground was done by 28 June.
The Chief Minister along with his deputy II, Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, then paid Joanna a visit by going to the newly upgraded playground.
There, Joanna gave them drawing she made of them and she also declared her love for Penang on those portraits.
According to Buletin Mutiara, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) Mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said the park will be further enhanced.
“Our current upgrading work included the replacement of the existing structures as we have replaced those broken ones with new ones.”
He added that more work will be done and they are open to requests to beautify the place.
Little Joanna sure had the guts to ask for what the community deserves! If you’re looking to improve certain aspects of your neighbourhood, you should definitely reach out to your local MPs too!
