Some people just don’t know how to stop at ‘No’. Promoters are especially tough nuts to crack when we’re obviously not interested in their product.
No matter how much we refuse them, they are super aggressive and persistent in selling us their products.
So, when declining their offer just isn’t enough, Malaysians have no choice but to come up with some quirky excuses and actions just to avoid them all together.
See if you can relate to this list or perhaps you could learn a new trick from here.
1. The classic shaking your head as you walk past them
You already know they’re promoting something and you really just don’t want to listen.
2. The Hand
Just talk to the hand cause the face ain’t listening.
3. Looking elsewhere as if the promoters do not exist
Yes, it is super mean to plainly ignore someone’s existence but sometimes avoiding eye contact is the easiest way to show disinterest, right?
4. Suddenly walking faster when you’re near them
You hope that by seeming like you’re in a hurry then they won’t bother you about their products. It don’t always work because sometimes they match your pace and talk to you too. Bruh…
5. Strike up a conversation with the person next to you
Sometimes, if you’re desperate enough you don’t care whether that person is a friend or not, you just really wanna avoid those promoters.
6. Pretend to use your phone
If talking to anyone at all is your ultimate fear then using your phone is as anti-social as it gets.
7. The Nope
Simple saying ‘No’ don’t usually help. However, repetitively saying ‘No’ as you speed off might just do the trick.
8. “I’m a student” or “I’m an intern”
The top excuses any young looking person would give just to stop these aggressive people from pushing those products onto us.
9. Catching them offguard with the stupidest excuses
From things like, “I just got a divorce” to “I’m bankrupt.” Yes, adults have actually said this.
10. Just take their handouts and quickly walk away
Whatever they’re trying to pass you, a brochure, pamphlet or sample, just take it and go.
Although these things may be so true and funny, a promoter’s job truly isn’t easy. They have to stand all day and do their best to hit a certain target just to get that commission. Plus, imagine all the rejection they have to face!
Even if we are not interested, let’s remember they are humans trying to work hard too. Don’t be harsh or rude towards them ok!
