An 8-year-old boy tragically passed away yesterday (16 October), believed to have been infected with Influenza A.

The boy’s family also tested positive

North Klang District Police Chief, Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao, said investigations found that Muhammad Syeikhu Azrin had tested positive for Influenza A, and his entire family was also infected with the same virus.

“Police received a report on the boy’s death in the Meru area early this morning. The case has been classified as a sudden death (SDR),” he said.

He added that health authorities have taken preventive steps, including screening the family and monitoring the area to prevent further spread of the infection.

“It’s not yet time to make face masks compulsory”

As previously reported, Selangor has recorded the highest number of cumulative influenza cases with 174 clusters, followed by the Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya) with 103 clusters, and Johor with 51 clusters.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that although influenza cases have risen sharply, it’s still not the time to make face masks mandatory to curb the spread of the Influenza A virus.

“For now, the Ministry of Health (MOH) isn’t making mask-wearing compulsory; we’re just encouraging it. Anyone showing symptoms should stay home and avoid crowded places like shopping malls,” he said.

Meanwhile, the MOH has outlined six preventive measures for parents, teachers, and students to help curb influenza outbreaks in schools.
