Our Pocket Rocketman was recently disqualified from the Keirin event for overtaking the derny before it pulled off the track at the Paris Olympics. In a lengthy post, Azizul said that he was squeezed aggressively (and intentionally) by a French rider, Rayan Helal.
As a result, Matthew Glaetzer (Australia) and Jeffrey Hoogland (Netherlands) qualified for the keirin quarterfinals by finishing as the top pair in the heat. An appeal for Azizulhasni was filed but to no avail.
Malaysians on the attack
Rayan, on the other hand, is facing an “immense attack” on his Instagram posts, where Malaysian social media users flocked to the comment sections to voice their dissatisfaction against him for allegedly squeezing Azizulhasni on purpose.
Many Malaysian netizens attacked Rayan for cheating in the game, and some of their words were not very pleasant.
“You’re playing dirty! Is it because you’re hosting the Olympics this year?”
“Play properly, shame on you! I hope your phone doesn’t work.”
“You’re playing dirty!”
“Congratulations for getting disqualified!”
“I’ve been mad at you for quite some time.”
“Didn’t your mum teach you?”
“You knew you couldn’t win so you played dirty.”
Comment sections LOCKED
At the time of writing, Rayan has since kept his comment sections locked, but netizens managed to find older posts to spill their rage.
“Why are you locking the comment sections? If you’re on the true side, why would you feel affected by the comment?”
“Oh, you’ve locked the comment sections. You must be afraid now.”
Earlier, the match that took place at the Velodrome Saint Quentin en Yvelines, Paris surprised many Malaysians when Azizul was disqualified from the race. His explanation about what went down during the match fuelled netizens’ rage even more and prompted some of them to vent their anger on Rayan’s social media.
Following his disqualification, Azizulhasni announced his retirement last night (August 11) and said Shah Firdaus will continue his legacy.
Our Pocket Rocketman may have lost in the Olympics, but he will always win our hearts. To all netizens, let’s NOT “camp” at Rayan’s social media and stop the hate words.
