It’s undeniably a hassle and a huge trouble if you don’t get through the toll when your Touch N’ Go card runs out of balance. You can only wait for help while the traffic behind you builds up as you’re dealing with your anxiety.
However, the nightmare is now over, especially for those living in Klang Valley. The tolls on 4 highways in Malaysia, namely LDP (Damansara-Puchong Highway), KESAS, SPRINT, and SMART Expressway have officially kickstarted the trial period for Open Payment System (OPS). In other words, you can now pay the toll fares with your debit card. The matter was revealed via a Facebook post by The Ministry of Works recently.
At the time of writing (22 August), only Mastercard, MyDebit, and VISA payments are accepted and e-Wallet payment is not available at the moment.
As shared by KESAS Traffic on its X page, all you need to do is just tap your debit card and drive away after the fares have been deducted from your card. It’s very much like purchasing goods from the store with your card. The 4 mentioned highways are also among the 12 highway operators that have agreed to the OPS, so we shall wait for more highway operators to officially announce the launch of OPS at the respective tolls.
Previously, the Ministry of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the system will be implemented at 31 toll plazas and a total of 81 lanes.
Keep in mind that the OPS in the 4 mentioned highways is still in the trial phase, and only a few lanes at every toll accept payment with a debit card. So, don’t speed into any random toll booth thinking that you can pay the toll fare with a debit card anywhere.

To those who frequently use the mentioned highways, have you tried the OPS? Do let us know if it was smooth sailing for you, or if you found yourself stuck like the beginning of RFID implementation back then.
