A shocking medical case caught the attention of netizens recently, whereby a man in Florida, the United States, sought medical help at a Tampa hospital after ooze emanated from visibly yellow nodules that had emerged on his palms, soles and elbows.
Cardiologists then diagnosed the man with xanthelasma, a sharply demarcated yellowish deposit of cholesterol underneath the skin caused by high cholesterol levels or other fats in the blood.
Man’s palms, soles and elbows filled with yellow nodules after going on a ‘carnivore diet’ for 8 months

According to the New York Post, which referenced the case published in JAMA Cardiology on 22 January, the patient, who’s in his 40s, suffered from the condition after he had adopted a ‘carnivore diet’ for 8 months.
Throughout the period, the man only ate entire sticks of butter, up to 4kg of cheese and hamburger patties daily.
The carnivore diet involves consuming only animal byproducts such as meat, eggs and dairy, with some fitness circles believing that the pure protein, no vegetable diet can help them lose weight and improve overall health.
However, the patient had taken the diet to the extremes, and despite the oozing yellow nodules on his palms, soles and elbows, he still insisted that his overall health had improved.
The man further claimed that he had lost weight and that his energy levels and cognitive functioning had markedly improved.
The man only sought medical help after nearly a month

For illustration purposes
The oozing yellow nodes were painless, and the man only sought medical attention after suffering from the condition for nearly a month.
During diagnosis, doctors found that the patient’s cholesterol level exceeded 1,000mg/dL. For reference, a healthy cholesterol level is under 200mg/dL. A 240mg/dL cholesterol level is already deemed to be ‘high’ by health professionals.
