On 10 February 2023, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that owners of private vehicles will no longer be required to display the vehicle licence, also known as road tax stickers on windscreens.
This is a part of digitalisation plans for Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) for motor vehicle licences and driving licences.

A day after the announcement, JPJ released an infographic, answering all of the frequently asked questions about the digitalisation of road tax which the public can refer to:
1. Is it compulsory to download the “MyJPJ” application?
No. It is just one of the options to get a digital copy of the road tax and driver’s license.
2. If I can’t download the MyJPJ app now and am unable to show my digital road tax, will I be summoned?
No. The authority is able to access the system via their devices and verify the status of the road tax.
3. Do the road tax and driver’s licenses still have to be paid after the expiry date?
Yes. You need to pay. It’s just that you don’t have to paste the sticker anymore.
4. What about senior citizens who do not have smartphones and are in areas that do not have internet?
Don’t worry, the digital format is not mandatory. You still can obtain the road tax sticker and physical license from JPJ if needed.
5. If the car is not driven by the owner, how to display the digital road tax?
It’s easy, just print the digital road tax on paper and put it in the car. Nonetheless, it is not your fault if you failed to display evidence. The authority can check the details with their devices.
6. Why can’t I log in to the MyJPJ app since the morning?
Like any other new system, many are wanting to register and login at the same time. The traffic is high.
Stated above are the answers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Stay tuned for more updates regarding the digitalization initiative.
