Everyone gets embarrassed of their parents every now and then, especially when it comes to their fashion sense! That’s what this young woman thought too, until she discovered something extraordinary that changed the way she looked at her dad forever.
Recently, netizens all over the world have been collectively tearing up over a story one young Japanese woman shared about her father on Twitter.
The young woman, known by her Twitter username as Riaru, always wondered why her father has been wearing the same green and yellow polo shirt for the past 20 years, despite it being incredibly worn.
According to Buzzfeed News, Riaru finally discovered the reason while she was looking through her recently deceased grandfather’s things. She discovered old photos of her parents on their honeymoon. In the photos, her father was wearing the same polo shirt while her mother, who passed away from cancer 18 years ago, wore a similar-looking shirt that mirrored her dad’s but in opposite colours.

Touched by the sentimental value the shirt held for her father, she had to share her discovery with the world and posted the photos she found on Twitter.
“I wondered why he kept on wearing that old polo shirt and why he didn’t just buy a new one. I never imagined that the polo shirt would contain such a special memory for him,” said Riaru.
“When that polo shirt gets a hole in it, he carefully sews it back together. He wears it for any special occassion, be it a work event or a trip out with the family.”

Since she found out why her father held on to the shirt for decades, she’s definitely changed her perception of her father. Before, she would always think her father was “uncool” for wearing the same shirt all the time, but she certainly doesn’t now.
“Now, I think that I have to look after memories too. I will never throw away anything important of my parents or grandparents.”
What a touching story!
