A woman from the United States allegedly passed away from drinking too much water.
The woman named Ashley Summers was enjoying a weekend visit, when she told those around her she was feeling “dehydrated, light-headed, and felt she couldn’t drink enough water”. After consuming a few bottles of water in a short period of time, she went home and passed out in her garage.
According to reports, she was rushed to a local hospital. However, she never regained consciousness and ultimately passed away due to water toxicity.
The deceased’s brother told the press that her death is a shock to the family. “When they first started talking about water toxicity. It was like this is a thing?”.
“Someone said she drank four bottles of water in 20 minutes. I mean, an average water bottle is like 16 ounces, so that was 64 ounces that she drank in a span of 20 minutes. That’s half a gallon. That’s what you’re supposed to drink in a whole day,” he added, as reported by The Independent.
However, this is not the first case of death from water intoxication. Water intoxication can cause seizures, brain damage, a coma, and even death, in serious cases.
