Carrying out a daily routine for the differently-abled can be difficult due to the lack of facilities to accommodate them.
But, what if additional obstructions are making it more difficult for the differently-abled, especially in dangerous situations.
Netizen, braderwheelchair, took to his TikTok account to showcase how his group of wheelchair-user friends had to queue up to cross through a divider with an obstruction at a crosswalk towards KLCC. An obstruction was integrated into the divider which caused it to only have space for one wheelchair user at a time while crossing the road.
He wrote, “Assalamualaikum and greetings. This is a real situation that those of us in wheelchairs have to face when we leave the house. Many places still lack facilities for the differently-abled. Most of the ones that have facilities do not follow the correct specifications.”
“Do you agree (with my statement)? If yes, please share as much as possible so that it reaches differently-abled representatives, ministers and the appropriate parties who aren’t supposed to only know how to talk. Let’s make Malaysia a country that friendly for the differently-abled.”
In the video showcased, the group of wheelchair users could be seen crossing the road towards KLCC as cars waited at a traffic light.
Upon reaching the divider at the midway point of the crosswalk, the group was surprised with an obstruction that only allowed for them to cross one at a time. This, in turn, caused the cars at the traffic light to wait despite the light turning green (kudos to them for waiting patiently).
His post was shared to Twitter, where some netizens speculated that the obstructions were integrated onto the divider to prevent motorcyclists from using the crosswalk and inconveniencing pedestrians. Though, this is not confirmed.
