The sudden arrest of former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) came much to the surprise of Malaysians.
Following the news, it was reported that outside the courthouse, several groups gathered to show their support for the former prime minister.
Muhyiddin, who is facing 4 counts of abuse of power amounting to RM232.5 million and 2 counts of money laundering involving RM195 million, was released on bail of RM2 million with 2 sureties by the Sessions Court yesterday (March 10).
Following his bail, it has been announced that a public fund has been set up to urge Malaysians to donate to help aid the former PM.
The fund was revealed by BERSATU youth chief, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who is under public scrutiny after announcing the setting up of a public fund to aid Muhyiddin following his corruption charges.
In an Instagram post, he attached the ‘Tabung Hibah Abah’ public fund poster dated with a caption, “Let’s help free Abah (Muhyiddin) tomorrow!” in relation to his arrest by the MACC.
What’s the need for it?
Malaysians have since flooded the comments section of the post and ridiculed the party as well as Wan Fayhsal for the need for such a public fund.
Plenty of netizens pointed out that Muhyiddin surely doesn’t need to beg for the rakyat’s money to help himself in his case.
“There’s 74 PN MPs that have high salaries. If each MP donates RM3k it would’ve been enough. But yet you still want to ask from the rakyat?”
“No need to make jokes, abah has assets worth millions. His family can help him. This is all just a game to make it seem like he’s innocent,” said a user.
“Why the need for a public fund? Aren’t you all rich? Pay for it with your own money,” said another user.
