Everyone knows that Malaysian philanthropist, Uncle Kentang, runs a charity organisation to help the underprivileged when they need it.

But, unfortunately, there are irresponsible parties who are taking advantage of this by using the ‘Uncle Kentang’ brand to garner donations for themselves.

Uncle Kentang took to his Facebook page, 马铃薯叔叔日志 Uncle Kentang, to warn the general public about the fake social media page created by people who are not a part of his organisation.

He wrote, “Beware of fake accounts! Dear friends, someone is pretending to be our account on Facebook and is posting requests for help in an attempt to defraud us. Please be careful not to be fooled.”

In his post, he shared screenshots of the fake social media account, as well as messages that the suspect has sent out in an effort to garner donations.

“The other party’s bank account for fundraising is RHB 1112 5460 0252 29, but our account is CIMB 8010 6247 32”

We just tried to transfer money and found that the other party’s name registered to the account is White Rocky Anak Allan Eighten. And our organisation’s name is Pertubuhan Amal Uncle Kentang Malaysia. Please be extra careful and don’t let the other party take advantage of you,” he shared.

The fake Facebook page has since been deleted but there’s no telling if there is more out there.

“Please help to report this so that no more kind-hearted people will be deceived. If anyone is accidentally deceived, please contact Uncle Kentang at 018-2683999/012-2732148,” he added.

So, do look out for fake accounts and ensure that the social media pages of charity organisations are legitimate before making any donations.
