Malaysia is generally safe from natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcano eruptions (because we don’t have any) due to our geographical location but our shores do get hit by minor earthquakes from time to time. Well, that is exactly what happened in Sabah earlier this morning, whereby tremors were felt at Ranau and Kundasang.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the epicentre of the minor earthquake was 13km northwest of Ranau at a depth of 10km. Furthermore, the department asserted that it measured 3.1 on the Richter Scale at 7.27am.
Previously, a similar incident occurred on 26 April 2022, whereby an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter Scale affected the same areas, with the epicentre being a bit further than the minor earthquake today. MetMalaysia said that it would be continuing to monitor the situation closely.
To our Sabahan friends who’s living in the vicinity of the area, please be careful and stay safe.
