Some of you may have guessed it right. In conjunction with the Chinese New Year, the Ministry of Works, Dato Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced that Malaysian road-users will be exempted from paying tolls on Thursday and Friday (February 8 and 9).
The toll exemption is exclusive to all road users who are categorised under Class 1 Transport (Private vehicles). According to a statement shared on Alexander’s Facebook page today (February 7), the toll exemption is also aligned with the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the people and easing their financial burdens.
The exemptions, however, will not be extended to these places,
- the Sultan Iskandar Building toll plazas
- Tanjung Kupang toll plazas
- toll plazas at the country borders
The exemptions will be in effect across all highways starting from 12:01 a.m. tomorrow (February 8) until 11:59 p.m. the following day. As many Malaysians have started their “balik kampung” journey, road users are advised to plan their journey and try to find alternative routes to avoid traffic.
You are also advised to reload your Touch N’ Go card before your journey to avoid unwanted congestion at the toll plazas.
In case you want to catch up with the latest traffic, do keep tabs with the official social media accounts of the Malaysian Highway Authority, which we have highlighted for you in the statement below.
To those who are traveling soon, please drive safely. Happy Chinese New Year to those celebrating, and happy holidays! May the Year of the Dragon bring you more happiness, health, and fortune!
