Smoking causes lung cancer. It’s probably 1 of the most basic pieces of knowledge that we learned back in high school. Secondhand smoke, or the tobacco smoke that we inhale without even smoking is also harmful enough to our lungs.

In a recent Facebook post, Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing said that KJ didn’t do a good job as a Health Minister when he was holding the position back then. This came after KJ pointed out that no ministers bring up the Generational Endgame (GEG) bill anymore but Tiong, on the other hand, said KJ shouldn’t point his fingers at anyone.

“The drafted GEG bill was unconstitutional,” Tiong said.

In fact, Tiong also pointed out that KJ has failed to consistently prove and link that smoking causes cancer.

“You also failed to establish a research or an institution to analyse the cancer situation in our country,” he added.

“This is an assault on science”

In an IG story yesterday (November 17), KJ responded to Tiong’s lengthy FB post and claims about smoking and cancer. It baffled the former Health Minister that even in 2023, someone is still doubting the link between smoking and lethal cancer, calling Tiong’s ignorance an assault on science.

KJ then tagged PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, asking the leader of Malaysia, “What kind of half-past 6 ministers have you got?”

KJ also took the effort to share an article that highlighted how harmful smoking is to the entire body through his IG story, emphasising that it’s a piece of legitimate information.

“It’s not a random coffee chit chat in Bintulu (Sarawak) coffee shop.”

The GEG bill, introduced by KJ, seeks to ban smoking among those born after 2007 and restrict the sale of tobacco products to that age group.

What do you think of the GEG bill?
