Sometimes, places like parks, restaurants and shopping malls are just that.
It’s occupants, like restaurant staff and shop owners spend the majority of their day at work there but for the public, those places are nothing more than just occasional hangout spots.
However, some places transcend that status if they have been around for while, such as this old shopping mall that left Malaysians feeling nostalgic when it was announced that it will be demolished.
Recently, Malaccans got a taste of this nostalgia when they found out that an old KFC outlet in Gajah Berang, Melaka had been cleared out.
Photos of the two-storey corner shop looking bare surfaced on multiple Facebook pages, inciting alarm amongst netizens.
There were red crosses marked on a couple of surfaces, wires hanging from the ceiling and an unhinged door leaning against a wall.
Netizens started speculating about the well-known outlet- half of them expressing concern about it closing down and the other half saying that it is just a renovation.
A walk down memory lane
There were also many who started reminiscing on the memories they have of the place as it has been around for almost three decades!
“Just feels like someone is stealing my childhood memories,” said one netizen woefully.
“My most beautiful memories of going to Bestari Tuition Centre near here. After class, I’d always stop by the KFC downstairs to buy a Deli Burger. It was only RM1.25 back in 1998,” said another.
A couple of netizens also shared the firsts they experienced at this KFC outlet– the first time they hung out with their friends and the first time they ate KFC after getting their first salary.
“The first KFC outlet I ate at after receiving my first salary from washing dishes after school.”
“Had my first date in 1993 here.”
It seems like Malaccans have a sentimental attachment to this outlet. We hope that it is just undergoing some renovations!
