Does spending time pampering your feline friends sound like a perfect weekend for you? (Nope, not doing the purr-fect pun!) Well, what if we told you that there’s a beach in Malaysia that allows you to pet hundreds of cats that are dying for your affection? That’s right, the Cat Beach Sanctuary has been established since 2014 in Teluk Bahang, Penang and to date, there are over 250 cats calling this place home!

According to The Star and Astro Awani, the sanctuary was founded by an American woman, Teviot Fairservis in partnership with a local fisherman, Nana Wan Chik who is better known as ‘Papa Kucing’. Their mission was simple but noble – to rescue and provide shelter to as many stray or abandoned cats as possible.

“Many were rescued from life or death situations. People abuse or dump them, and they end up here. We are the last resort for these homeless cats,” Teviot said.

At the sanctuary, there’s a small wooden house facing the beach, and a jungle behind it, making the place a conducive environment for the felines to roam around freely! Having said that, you can enjoy the mesmerising view while your furry friends keep you company.

In fact, you can adopt them if you want! Here are some of the cats you can bring home.

5. Little Tiger

Of course, these are just a few that have been named and there are hundreds of other cats at the sanctuary waiting for you to give them a name and a loving forever home. Understandably, running a shelter with massive numbers of cats require a lot of money.

It was understood that in 2015, the overall expenses of the shelter hit RM110,000 and we suspect the numbers may have gone up due to the ever-climbing number of ‘new guests’ checking in. Aside from cat food, the residents at the shelter need medicine, vaccinations and sterilisation which the group can barely afford.

As such, your donations are greatly appreciated and you can do it here! Volunteers are welcomed to help out as well!
