Things at work can get quite frustrating at times, and some of us might resort to releasing our pent-up emotions on our various social media accounts. However, it’s best to ensure that you don’t post anything that might get you into trouble with your bosses or future employers.
That being said, I’m sure it’s perfectly fine to post funny, harmless and cute memes about pooping at work, ’cause let’s face it, EVERYONE NEEDS TO POOP. But who knew that this employee would get fired just because he posted a cute Elmo meme about pooping at work?
Cody Hidalgo posted this exact Elmo meme on his Facebook page which says, “Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That’s why I poop on company time.” A dollar is basically one ringgit in US terms, and a dime is the equivalent to 10 cents.
It’s funny, it’s relatable, and it’s not even offensive. Not to mention cute, ’cause hello, it’s Elmo! But apparently, this actually got Cody fired from his job, even though he posted it on Sunday – a non-working day!
He also posted the conversation he had with his boss, Andy, over this ‘issue’. His boss told him,
“We don’t make a dollar when you’re sh*tting all the time. Why don’t you stay home and do your sh*tting. I don’t like to play your bullsh*t games. Maybe there’s a company out there that would put up with your games ’cause I won’t. Good luck!”
WOW!
At first, Cody had no idea what he was talking about as he didn’t see the meme as something that would offend his boss. But once he realised what his boss was referring to, the situation became even more ridiculous.
“It’s a meme, Andy, why are you doing all of this over a meme?” Cody asked.
Cody’s post soon went viral on social media with many being appalled at what happened. People even did some snooping about and actually found the company’s Facebook page, according to Distractify.
They then started spamming the company’s review section with memes and silly posts, and even left one-star reviews on their Facebook page.
However, getting fired over a meme is not the worst part about this story. Andy’s son, Drew, sent Cody an extremely offensive text message when the story went viral. Attempting to get Cody to take down his post, Drew made fun of Cody’s kid, who had died.
“This right here shows your maturity level and why you not having a kid is for the best right now,” Drew told Cody.
But Cody responds by saying that he definitely won’t take the post down now that he had made fun of his kid who died.
This is absolutely absurd!
But here’s the confusing part. Cody recently updated his Facebook post saying that Drew told him he had been REHIRED, and told him to “be at work tomorrow”.
“For y’all who know I did work the three days after this. I was FIRED and REHIRED. I posted this 2 hours after no response from Andy with the Good luck comment and saying he wouldn’t put up with my bull shit. Here’s texts from drew stating I was fired and then Rehired ??♂️” Cody wrote.
*scratches head*
We’re unsure of what happened next, but I’m sure Cody will want nothing to do with this company ever again!
While employees should know better than to post potentially offensive things about their company on social media, bosses also need to learn that firing their staff for absolutely ridiculous reasons could make them The Worst Boss Ever on the Internet.
So glad Cody doesn’t have to work for Andy anymore! I’m sure with this story going viral, it won’t be a surprise if Cody is offered a new job really soon!
